England rout France to reach semi-finals

England beat France 34-6 to set up a semi-final clash with New Zealand at the Rugby League World Cup.

England have booked a semi-final clash with New Zealand at the Rugby League World Cup thanks to a 34-6 victory over France at the DW Stadium.

Richard Agar's men stunned their hosts by taking the lead in the fourth minute.

Vincent Dupont was the man who burst over the line, and Thomas Bosc added the extras.

However, they were in front for just seven minutes, as Josh Charnley replied thanks to an excellent pass from Sam Tomkins, playing on Wigan Warriors turf for the final time before joining NRL side New Zealand Warriors.

Ryan Hall put England in front for the first time in the 18th minute, before Charnley grabbed his second try of the game to make it 16-6.

Kevin Sinfield missed the kick, but a second try from Hall gave the Leeds Rhinos star another chance, and this time he was able to convert.

Leading 22-6 at half time, the writing was on the wall for the French team, but they battled hard against the tide in the second half. However, scores from Sean O'Loughlin and Brett Ferres completed the rout.

The night ended on a sour note for Tomkins, though, as he was sin binned for a professional foul.
