Zenit St Petersburg played out a goalless draw with AS Monaco as the sides met in their Champions League Group C clash, with both teams having got their campaigns underway with a victory on matchday one.

Monaco started the better of the two, but neither team could apply enough attacking quality in the encounter to get three points, with Zenit particularly wasteful in the second half.

Goal

Yury Lodygin: Zenit's stopper had very little to do on a night that was well short of opportunities. He did, however, make two fantastic stops in the early stages to deny Dimitar Berbatov and Nabil Dirar. (7/10)

Defence

Alexander Anyukov: Did well getting forward and almost carved out a good opportunity had his first-half cross not been deflected clear. Not much to defend against. (7/10)

Domenico Criscito: Quiet night for the centre-back who had very little to do. Looked troubled by Monaco's pace early on. (6/10)

Nicolas Lombaerts: Disappointing. Had little to do at the back. Fluffed his lines on two occasions and could have won the game for the hosts. (5/10)

Ezequiel Garay: Not much to do on a quiet night. Did well to clear Monaco's early crosses and started some promising moves from the back. (6/10)

Midfield

Hulk: The game's standout player. Looked to give his side the lead when he had possession. The driving force in an otherwise lacklustre team. (8/10)

Oleg Shatov: Did very little to influence the game and was subbed during the second half. (6/10)

Victor Fayzulin: Another disappointment on the night. Could have made the difference had he looked to support Hulk. (6/10)

Javi Garcia: Played the entire game and was largely anonymous. Began a few telling moves, but failed to create when required. (5/10)

Danny: Zenit have long pinned their hopes on the dynamic midfielder. Couldn't answer the call, very sloppy in possession. (5/10)

Attack

Salomon Rondon: Poor performance. Failed to hold up the ball and scuffed his effort when Hulk created one of two great chances in the game. (5/10)

Substitutes

Igor Smolnikov: Looked promising and made a well-timed run late on that almost carved out a winning goal. (7/10)

Alexander Kerzhakov: Made a positive impact for the hosts and might have scored had Ricardo Carvalho not been in the way of his fierce effort. (7/10)

Andrey Arshavin: Introduced with only a few minutes remaining. Barely touched the ball following his introduction. (6/10)

Goal

Danijel Subasic: Perhaps a little busier than his counterpart, but still had little to do. Saved well from Lombaerts and commanded his box well. (7/10)

Defence

Fabinho: Very little impact on the contest from a position that could've been influential. Booked too. (5/10)

Layvin Kurzawa: Showed promise throughout and did well to find Berbatov early in the game. (7/10)

Ricardo Carvalho: Read the game well and looked to play out from the back. Took a terrible shot to the face to protect his side too. (7/10)

Andrea Raggi: Not too much to write home about. His side kept a clean sheet though. (6/10)

Midfield

Joao Moutinho: Had a really positive start to the fixture and ran the midfield. Faded and was replaced in the second period. (6/10)

Geoffrey Kondogbia: His presence and athletic ability was missing in the middle. Failed to retain possession or win the ball back. (5/10)

Jeremy Toulalan: Booking shouldn't overshadow his performance. Carried his side for long periods and looked most creative for Monaco. (7/10)

Nabil Dirar: Fantastic in the opening stages and produced a standout shot which narrowly missed the top corner. Failed to build from a promising start. (6/10)

Attack

Dimitar Berbatov: Didn't do much to help his team defensively and his movement was slow all night. Eventually subbed. (5/10)

Lucas Ocampos: Valiant effort with lots of running, pressed defenders hard too. Didn't offer much creatively however. (6/10)

Substitutes

Tiemoue Bakayoko: Gave away two needless fouls. Didn't produce going forward. Game bypassed the midfielder. (6/10)

Yannick Ferreira-Carrasco: Perfect substitution from Monaco, could have won the game had it not been for the post. (7/10)

Valere Germain: Introduced too late to provide that much of an impact during a game that failed to offer much in the attacking department. (6/10)
