Daniel Caligiuri sees Wolfsburg past SV Darmstadt 98

Wolfsburg claim a slender 1-0 victory over SV Darmstadt 98 in the Bundesliga, thanks to a late goal from Daniel Caligiuri.

Daniel Caligiuri's late finish ensured that Wolfsburg claimed a slender 1-0 victory over hosts SV Darmstadt 98 in the Bundesliga this afternoon.

Wolfsburg's Josuha Guilavogui sought to test the home stopper early on when he shot from distance, leaving Christian Mathenia to make a strong diving save down low at his bottom corner.

The visitors soon took control of the ball and Max Kruse should have made use of the club's 75% possession, but he could not keep his effort down after some standout wing play from Ricardo Rodriguez.

SV might have made the away side pay for their profligacy just before the interval, although Konstantin Rausch was unable to find the target having been picked out by Marcel Heller in the six-yard box.

With very little to separate the sides in terms of chances in the second half, Wolfsburg were able to steal the winner when Caligiuri finally found a way through 12 minutes from time.
