Former winger Luis Boa Morte says that he did not leave Fulham for West Ham United in 2007 'by his own free will'.

Luis Boa Morte has claimed that he only left Fulham for West Ham United in 2007 because of a decision by the club's hierarchy.

The Portuguese winger enjoyed the best period of his career at Craven Cottage, with 54 goals being scored from 249 appearances in all competitions between 2000 and 2007.

Boa Morte then made the switch to fellow London side West Ham, but the attacker has said that he did not join the Hammers 'by his own free will'.

The 41-year-old told Mais Futebol: "I went to West Ham, which is a club with many supporters, but not by my own free will. I didn't want to leave Fulham. A year before, I could have gone to Newcastle and I didn't want to force it.

"Then the CEO of Fulham decided to sell me and both I and Chris Coleman were caught off guard. They accepted the West Ham proposal. As a captain I thought I deserved more consideration."

Boa Morte failed to make a significant impact at West Ham, with just two goals coming from a total of 75 starts and 34 substitute outings.
