There were few chances of note early on in Sicily, with Stephan Lichtsteiner's tame effort from the edge of the penalty area rolling wide of the post.

Carlos Tevez then tested Stefano Sorrentino, but the Palermo keeper fumbled his shot before the ball was cleared to safety.

The Argentinian striker then turned provider by feeding Stefano Sturaro, who sliced wide as the visitors pushed for the opening goal.

Tevez had the final attempt of the half, but his low shot went wide as the sides headed into the break all square.
