Rafael Marquez: 'Mexico can make history at World Cup'

Rafael Marquez believes that Mexico can make history by reaching the latter stages of the World Cup.

Mexico captain Rafael Marquez has insisted that the current squad have the chance to make history by challenging for the World Cup in Brazil.

Despite not being considered among the favourites to go far in the tournament, Marquez believes that Mexico will raise their performance levels in an attempt to produce a shock.

"This is a window for all of us, for many of the players it's a huge opportunity to raise their level and for others to see us play," the 35-year-old told reporters. "You don't get many chances to do that. That's what I always tell the lads.

"Our group is strong and in our minds we believe we can make it all the way to the finals and make history."

Mexico will face Brazil, Croatia and Cameroon in Group A.
