Newcastle United striker Callum Wilson returns to full training with the club following a four-month injury absence due to a calf problem.

Newcastle United striker Callum Wilson has returned to full training with the club following a four-month injury absence.

The 30-year-old has not featured since Newcastle's 1-1 draw with Manchester United back on December 27, with a calf problem being the striker's latest injury in a disrupted campaign.

In his absence, the Magpies have excelled under Eddie Howe, winning 10 of their last 15 Premier League games to climb away from the relegation zone and into 10th place ahead of their trip to Manchester City on Sunday.

However, the former Bournemouth man could be set to return to the squad at the Etihad Stadium after taking part in full training this week.

Speaking to the BBC's Footballer's Football Podcast after posting a video on his personal Instagram account on Thursday, Wilson said: "I am fully charged now. I think it (his Instagram reel) was a little subtle indication that I'm back, without saying I'm back. It was a little reel of my goals and stuff like that.

"It was more for myself for personal use, but it was quite good and I thought I'd share it with my Instagram followers. I'm back now, training, so it's been a good week.

"It's been a long time coming but we're there. We're there!"

Due to missing four months of action, Wilson has only managed to feature in 15 Premier League appearances for Newcastle this season, scoring six goals.
