Leeds United held by bottom club Blackpool at Bloomfield Road

Blackpool take a surprise point off Leeds United in the Championship.

The Championship's bottom club Blackpool took a point off in-form Leeds United this afternoon as the two sides played out a 1-1 draw at Bloomfield Road.

The visitors started on the front foot and fired a warning shot in the second minute as Luke Murphy struck wide, but it was the hosts who came closest in the opening stages.

Andrea Orlandi played a dangerous ball across the six-yard box with eight minutes played, and Michael Jacobs came within inches of making a connection and putting Blackpool in front.

Orlandi was a thorn in Leeds' side throughout the first half, and he sent their nerves jangling again in the 25th minute when his dangerous free kick was almost turned in by Gary Madine.

Early warnings went unheeded and Leeds fell behind from another set piece one minute before half time, Orlandi's initial effort coming back off the post and Madine heading in to give Lee Clark's side a surprise lead.

Leeds showed improvement after the break and almost levelled things up on the hour as Mirco Antenucci struck a volley inches over the crossbar.

The Italian went one better two minutes later when he drew the Whites level following a defensive mix-up from Blackpool, slipping between two defenders and beating goalkeeper Joe Lewis with a lob.

The visitors pushed for a winner and had the ball in the net in stoppage time, but Giuseppe Bellusci's strike was ruled out for a foul during the build-up.
