Preview: Getafe vs. Eibar - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Saturday's La Liga clash between Getafe and Eibar, including team news and predicted lineups.

Getafe will be looking to pick up their first La Liga victory since the return of the 2019-20 campaign when they welcome Eibar to the Spanish capital on Saturday night.

Jose Bordalas's side are currently sixth in Spain's top flight, just two points off the top four, while Eibar occupy 16th and are fighting to stay above the relegation zone.

Getafe came close to securing a top-four finish last season but ultimately fell just short, finishing two points behind Valencia in the final Champions League qualification spot.

The capital outfit are making another challenge for the top four this term, though, and currently sit just two points off Atletico Madrid after 29 matches of the 2019-20 campaign.

Real Sociedad will have the chance to reclaim fourth on Thursday night, but Getafe are very much in the race despite the fact that they have won just one of their last six league matches.

Bordalas's side have lost to Granada and drawn with Espanyol in their two games since returning to action on June 12, while they entered the lockdown period off the back of a goalless draw with Celta Vigo.

Eibar, meanwhile, have lost to Real Madrid and drew with Athletic Bilbao in their two matches since the season resumed amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Jose Luis Mendilibar's side have finished 10th, ninth and 12th in their last three La Liga campaigns but are facing a battle to stay above the relegation zone this term.

Indeed, a total of 28 points from 29 matches has left them in 16th spot in the table, just three points clear of 18th-placed Mallorca on the same number of fixtures.

The omens are not exactly fantastic for Los Armeros ahead of this weekend's match, meanwhile, considering that they are winless in their last six games against Getafe in Spain's top flight.

Not since November 2015 have the Basque outfit overcome Getafe in La Liga, while they have the second-worst away record in Spain's top flight this season, picking up just eight points from their 14 matches.

Team News

Getafe could be without Erick Cabaco until the middle of July due to the ankle problem that the defender picked up against Espanyol, but Djene Dakonam should return from an injury of his own.

Filip Manojlovic is still out with a back injury, but Xabier Etxeita is available after serving a suspension on Tuesday night, leaving Bordalas with options in a defensive area.

Kenedy and Angel could come into their manager's thinking for this weekend's contest, although Jorge Molina is expected to continue alongside Jaime Mata in the final third of the field.

As for Eibar, Ivan Ramis remains on the sidelines through injury, but the Basque outfit otherwise have a full squad ahead of this weekend's contest.

There are not expected to be many changes from the side that impressively held Athletic on Wednesday night, meaning that Pedro Leon and Kike should keep their spots in attacking areas.

That said, Charles and Pape Diop are both pushing for returns to the XI.

Getafe possible starting lineup:
Soria; Suarez, Dakonam, Etxeita, Olivera; Nyom, Maksimovic, Arambarri, Cucurella; Mata, Molina

Eibar possible starting lineup:
Dmitrovic; Correa, Oliveira, Arbilla, Cote; Leon, Escalante, Edu, Orellana; Kike, Enrich

We say: Getafe 2-0 Eibar

Getafe are certainly due a victory, and it is difficult to back against the top-four hopefuls this weekend. Eibar have a lot of talented players, particularly in forward positions, but they have struggled on the road this season. In truth, we are expecting an extremely routine home victory for Bordalas's side.
