Forfar Athletic have fought their way to the top of the Scottish League One table this afternoon with a 2-0 victory over Airdrieonians, while Stirling Albion's loss to Brechin City has ensured their relegation.
Martin Fotheringham opened the scoring for Forfar on the half-hour mark before Michael Dunlop headed home in the 89th minute to seal the win. The loss leaves the visitors in fifth place with a six-point gap to the final playoff place.
Somerset Park played host to the afternoon's highest-scoring game as Peterhead ended their four-game winless run with a 4-2 victory over Ayr United.
The hosts went into the break two goals up thanks to Alan Forrest and Jordan Preston, before the visitors fought back to defy the form table with a quickfire brace from Jordon Brown and strikes from Andy Rodgers and Gary McDonald. The result leaves Peterhead in seventh, switching places with their opponents who fall to eighth.
Stirling Albion suffered a 2-1 defeat to Brechin City to keep the visitors at the bottom of the table and ensure their relegation to Scottish League Two next season.
Andy Jackson opened the scoring with his 11th goal of the season to put Brechin ahead. It was heading for a 1-1 draw after Sandy Cunningham scored a late goal four minutes from normal time to equalise, but their parity was temporary as Jackson returned with a second strike two minutes into added-on time.
Dunfermline left it late to snatch a 1-0 victory over Stranraer to help displace the visitors from the top of the table and break their four-game winning streak.
Faysall El-Bakhtaoui struck from the centre of the box in the 83rd minute to avenge the hosts' 5-1 humiliation the last time the sides met on February 28.
Greenock Morton rescued a 3-2 victory over Stenhousemuir with a second-half comeback after Paul McMullan and Ross Meechan had given the ninth-placed side a two-goal half-time lead at Cappielow Park.
Goals in the final quarter of the game from Peter MacDonald, Declan McManus and Stefan McCluskey salvaged the result and leaves them in third place, one point behind second-placed Stanraer and three behind leaders Forfar.
