Crystal Palace claim their first goals and points of the Premier League season thanks to a shock 2-1 win over Chelsea at Selhurst Park.

Crystal Palace have claimed their first goals and points of the Premier League season thanks to a shock 2-1 win over Chelsea at Selhurst Park.

The Eagles took the lead in the 11th minute as Andros Townsend's cross bounced off Yohan Cabaye's knee under a challenge from David Luiz and clipped Cesar Azpilicueta on its way into the net, prompting joy from the home stands.

Antonio Conte's charges were level within seven minutes, however, as Cesc Fabregas's corner from the right was poorly dealt with by the Palace defence, allowing the unmarked Tiemoue Bakayoko to rise and head home for his first Premier League goal.

Chelsea then lost Victor Moses to a hamstring injury, forcing Davide Zappacosta to come on midway through the first half, and on the stroke of half time, the visitors' troubles increased thanks to the returning Wilfried Zaha.

Mamadou Sakho powered deep into Chelsea's half and fed his teammate, whose first touch got the better of Azpilicueta and allowed him to regain composure before sliding his shot across Thibaut Courtois and into the bottom-right corner.

Both sides enjoyed promising spells in the second half, with Palace a completely different proposition to the side that had failed to claim a single goal or point prior to Saturday, but they rode their luck late on when Sakho's backheel in his own box was pounced upon by Fabregas, only for the Spaniard to drill wide.

The win does not move Palace off the bottom of the table, but they have reduced the gap from safety to four points, while Chelsea now sit nine points behind league leaders Manchester City.
