John Terry reportedly vows to play on for England despite being stripped of the captaincy.

John Terry has reportedly vowed to play on for England despite being stripped of the captaincy.

The Chelsea skipper was demoted pending his trial for alleged racist abuse of Queen Park Rangers defender Anton Ferdinand.

Reports suggested that Terry was on the verge of quitting the national team altogether, but he is said to have changed his mind after Fabio Capello came out in support of the 31-year-old.

"John is naturally distraught at losing the captaincy," The Sun quotes a source close to the player as saying. "He has been agonising over whether to step down as a player and end his England career altogether.

"But, having been given such solid support by Mr Capello, he has changed his mind.

"As long as England want him, John wants to carry on wearing the shirt with pride."

England take on Holland in a friendly on February 29.
