Lewandowski has moved past his former Bayern team-mate Claudio Pizarro in the all-time charts.

Robert Lewandowski made history by becoming the Bundesliga's highest-scoring foreign player as Bayern Munich moved top on goal difference with a 6-0 hammering of Wolfsburg at the Allianz Arena.

The former Borussia Dortmund striker netted in the 37th minute to move onto 196 goals, surpassing former team-mate Claudio Pizarro.

Lewandowski added a second in the latter stages on his 150th Bundesliga appearance for Bayern to continue his prolific form against Wolfsburg, taking his tally to 16 in eight games.

Serge Gnabry – who signed a new deal this week – James Rodriguez, Thomas Muller and Joshua Kimmich also scored to ensure Bayern moved above Dortmund.

Muller, along with Jerome Boateng and Mats Hummels, was told this week he would no longer be selected to play for Germany and showed coach Joachim Low what he is missing with a fine display.

Muller was in the thick of it from the off, almost laying on a chance for Lewandowski, before then missing the target.

Bayern did all the early running, but Wolfsburg had a chance of their own when Yannick Gerhardt headed Maxi Arnold's corner over the crossbar.

Koen Casteels saved from Lewandowski and Gnabry, who opened the scoring in the 34th minute as he stabbed in Muller's low cross.

Gnabry then turned provider three minutes later, racing onto a stunning through ball from Rodriguez and unselfishly squaring to an unmarked Lewandowski to double the lead and move past Pizarro.

The game was over just seven minutes after half-time following a low curling effort from just outside the box from Rodriguez.

Bayern boss Niko Kovac even had the luxury of giving Javi Martinez, Gnabry and Rodriguez a rest, with Liverpool in the Champions League on the horizon.

And Bayern boosted their goal difference with three in nine minutes, all assisted by substitute Franck Ribery.

Muller and Lewandowski found the bottom corner, either side of Kimmich heading in, to keep Bayern unbeaten in 22 home meetings against Wolfsburg.
