How Atletico Madrid could line up against Juventus

Sports Mole looks at how Atletico Madrid could line up in Wednesday's Champions League clash with Juventus.

Atletico Madrid will welcome Italian champions Juventus to the Wanda Metropolitano on Wednesday night for the first leg of their last-16 clash in the Champions League.

Diego Simeone's side were thumped 4-0 by Borussia Dortmund in the group stages of this season's Champions League, but that proved to be their only defeat, with a total of 13 points seeing them finish second in Group A to advance to the last-16 stage.

Atletico have reached the final of the Champions League in two of the last five seasons, losing to bitter rivals Real Madrid in both 2014 and 2016.

The capital giants are not seen as one of the favourites to win the competition this term, but will unquestionably provide stern competition for a Juve team fancied to land the crown.

Here, Sports Mole looks at how Atletico could line up at the Wanda Metropolitano.

POSS ATL XI vs. JUV

Out: Lucas Hernandez (knee)
Doubtful: Koke (muscular), Diego Costa (foot), Stefan Savic (thigh)

Both Diego Costa and Stefan Savic made their returns from injury against Rayo Vallecano in La Liga at the weekend, suggesting that the pair will be involved against Juve, although neither is likely to start.

Lucas Hernandez will definitely miss out with a knee problem, but Koke has trained ahead of the match and the Spaniard will reportedly be named in the starting XI following a muscular issue.

Alvaro Morata is likely to start against his former club, with Antoine Griezmann also featuring in the final third. The latter has 10 goals in his last 11 Atletico appearances and will be the biggest threat to the Italians.

Thomas Lemar, Angel Correa and Vitolo are wide options for Simeone, but it seems likely that Koke, Rodri Hernandez, Thomas Partey and Saul Niguez will start in a relatively narrow midfield.

Santiago Arias, meanwhile, should win the battle against Juanfran to feature at right-back.
