Gary Neville claims that Mesut Ozil needs to guide Arsenal to silverware now that he has committed his future to the club.

Manchester United legend Gary Neville has claimed that Mesut Ozil needs to get Arsenal back on top now that he has signed a new deal at the Emirates.

Since the summer, there were fears that both Ozil and Alexis Sanchez would leave the Gunners as both seemed reluctant to pen fresh terms at the club.

In the end, Sanchez decided to leave the North London outfit for Manchester United, but his former teammate opted to sign a three-and-a-half-year deal at Arsenal.

Neville believes that the midfielder needs to perform consistently and be the driving force in the Gunners' hunt for silverware.

"Losing Alexis Sanchez was a blow, so to get Ozil sorted is positive for them, but he now needs to perform at the level he has been performing in recent months for the next few years, to get Arsenal the trophies they need and to get them back up into that top four," the ex-England international told Sky Sports News.

Ozil's new deal is reported to be worth around £350,000 a week before tax.
