Jerzy Janowicz through as Radek Stepanek retires

Jerzy Janowicz advances into the third round of Wimbledon after Radek Stepanek is forced to retire in the second set of their second-round encounter.

Jerzy Janowicz has booked his spot in the third round of Wimbledon after Radek Stepanek was forced to retire in the second set of their second-round encounter on Wednesday.

It was Janowicz that took control of the first set in the early stages, breaking before serving his way into a 2-0 lead. Stepanek did manage to hold his next two service games, but another break at 2-4 allowed Janowicz to claim the set on serve.

Stepanek improved in the early stages of the second, twice coming close to breaking his Polish opponent, but a break for Janowicz at 3-3 moved the Pole into a 4-3 lead.

A dominant service game from Janowicz proved to be the last action of the match as Stepanek pulled out with an unspecified injury.
