Emily Arbuthnott through in US Open girls' singles

British junior Emily Arbuthnott beats Ingrid Neel in three sets to reach the second round of the girls' singles at the US Open.

British junior Emily Arbuthnott has recorded a three-set victory over Ingrid Neel to reach the second round of the girls' singles at the US Open.

Arbuthnott, who reached the last 16 at Roland Garros earlier this year, fell a break behind early in the first set but she hit back to take the opener on a tie-break.

However, at the start of the second, the British representative lost her serve again, and this time, she wasn't able to save the set as the match went into a decider.

Arbuttnott struck in her opponent's first three service games to open up a considerable lead and although she suffered a few nerves when trying to serve out the match, she eventually got over the line by a 7-6 3-6 6-2 scoreline.
