Novak Djokovic pulls out of Madrid Masters

World number two Novak Djokovic pulls out of the Madrid Masters after suffering a recurrence of a wrist injury.

Novak Djokovic has pulled out of next week's Madrid Masters following a recurrence of a wrist injury.

The world number two has been struggling with the complaint since last month's Monte Carlo Masters, but had been expected to be fit to play at the tournament.

The Serb told BBC Sport: "I did everything possible in order to play in Madrid. Now I will take some time to recover and heal my injury."

Despite the injury, Djokovic still hopes to play in the Rome Masters the following week in preparation for the French Open at the end of the month.
