Catalans Dragons cruise to win over Widnes Vikings

Catalan Dragons ease to a 42-20 win over Widnes Vikings for their second win of the Super League season.

Catalans Dragons have eased to a 42-20 win over Widnes Vikings in the Super League this afternoon.

Elliott Whitehead scored two tries in the opening half to help the home side reach an eight-point lead by half time, but efforts from Paddy Flynn and Chris Dean kept Widnes in contention.

However, Whitehead completed his hat-trick after the break, while Ben Pomeroy and Vincent Duport both finished the day with two each.

Thomas Bosc struggled with the kicking duties for the hosts converting just two of the seven that he took, before being replaced by Morgan Escare late on.

Jack Owens and Lloyd White both added late consolation tries for Widnes, but they rarely looked like getting back into the match in the second half.

The result gives Catalan just their second win over the season, while the Vikings have been beaten for just the second time, leaving them fifth in the table.
