West Ham United issue Dimitri Payet denial

West Ham United confirm that talks are underway with Dimitri Payet over a new contract, but deny that any demands have been made by the playmaker's agent.

Dimitri Payet's agent has not made any financial demands of West Ham United, according to the Premier League club.

A report last night claimed that the French midfielder's representative had informed the Hammers during contract negotiations that his client wanted a hefty £125,000 a week.

However, while the East Londoners have dismissed that notion, they have revealed that "amicable and productive talks" over fresh terms are underway.

"Following reports in today's media, West Ham United would like to clarify that at no time have Dimitri Payet or his agent made any demands to the club over a new contract," read a statement on the club's official website.

"However, the club can confirm that due to Dimitri's outstanding impact since his arrival at the Boleyn Ground, they have initiated amicable and productive talks about an improvement and extension to his contract. Those talks are progressing well and it is hoped they can be concluded shortly.

"Dimitri would like to make clear that he is very proud to play for West Ham United and he appreciates the support he has received from the Board, manager and fans since he joined the club in the summer."

Payet joined West Ham in the summer from Marseille for £10.75m.
