West Bromwich Albion manager Roy Hodgson has admitted that his side were given a "reality check" after their 2-0 defeat to Manchester United.
The rejuvenated Baggies had gone into the match at Old Trafford on the back of three consecutive Premier League wins.
However, a brace from Wayne Rooney was enough to hand Albion their first defeat since the beginning of February.
"It was a bit of a reality check for us here today," Hodgson told Sky Sports News.
"We've had three very good games but, to be frank, today we weren't able to give Manchester United the kind of problems I'd have liked to have seen us give them.
"I'm not bitterly disappointed but I am a little bit disappointed because I think we can do better than that. We can play better than that."
Hodgson's side have slipped down to 14th in the table following the defeat.
