A goal from Wayne proved to be the difference between Manchester United and West Bromwich at the break this afternoon.
The England international struck when he diverted Javier Hernandez's goalbound effort past Ben Foster in the 35th minute.
Up until that point, the visiting Baggies had created the two best chances, but Keith Andrews poked wide following a cross from Liam Ridgwell, while the Irish midfielder saw his driven shot tipped to safety by United goalkeeper David de Gea.
Winger Ashley Young had United's only other real chance of note in the opening 45 minutes, which West Brom goalkeeper Foster was able to palm to safety.
United are aiming to close the gap on leaders Manchester City, who are in action at the moment against Swansea City.
