Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney has admitted that a Premier League title win this season would be the best ever for the club.

Despite the enviable riches of Manchester City, the Red Devils are just two points behind their local rivals in the table.

"You can sense the excitement in the city among the players and the fans, it is great," Rooney told The Mirror. "These are the times you want to be playing football, to be in a title race like this and hopefully we can come out on top.

"I imagine this would be our best title win. Obviously I don't want to
speak to soon, but if we can win it and pip City to it, I'm sure it would be very sweet."

United host West Bromwich Albion in the league on Sunday.
