Sunderland are reportedly close to signing Argentina defender Gino Peruzzi from Velez Sarsfield.

Sunderland are reportedly in talks with Argentina defender Gino Peruzzi.

The 21-year-old, who currently plays for Velez Sarsfield, has received rave reviews this season for his performances in the Copa Libertadores.

Peruzzi has attracted interest from a host of top European clubs, but, according to The Mirror, he is close to agreeing a move to the Stadium of Light.

The right-back, who can also operate as a winger, holds an Italian passport and would therefore be free to move to England without gaining a work permit.

He has been capped four times by Argentina at senior international level.
