Everton reportedly rejected an approach from Tottenham Hotspur for defender Michael Keane last year, with the defender struggling for game time at Goodison Park.

Everton reportedly knocked back an approach from Tottenham Hotspur for defender Michael Keane last year.

The 27-year-old, who joined the Toffees from Burnley in 2017, has struggled for game time under Carlo Ancelotti recently, only starting three of his side's last 10 matches.

According to Football Insider, Spurs sent scouts to watch the England international frequently last year, however Everton were reluctant to let Keane leave.

The report also claims that Tottenham's move for the former Burnley player came before Toby Alderweireld signed an extension last December, however Jose Mourinho is still said to be looking for further defensive reinforcements in the summer transfer window.

Keane has made 88 appearances for Everton since his arrival, registering three goals in that time and making 10 appearances for the England side.

The defender has since lost his spot in the starting lineup to Mason Holgate, who has formed a centre-back partnership with Yerry Mina at Goodison Park in recent weeks.
