Tottenham Hotspur could reportedly attempt to sign Chris Smalling from Manchester United this summer.
The 30-year-old is currently on loan with Roma, and the Italian giants have revealed that they are interested in acquiring the Englishman on a permanent deal at the end of the 2019-20 campaign.
However, according to Calciomercato, Tottenham have expressed a desire to sign the former non-league defender and could make their move upon his return to Old Trafford.
Smalling, who played under Spurs boss Jose Mourinho at United, has scored twice in 26 appearances for Roma during the current season.
The centre-back was deemed surplus to requirements at Old Trafford last summer following the arrival of Harry Maguire but his contract with the 20-time English champions runs until June 2022.
Tottenham could lose Jan Vertonghen on a free transfer at the end of the season.
