Cristiano Ronaldo insists that Real Madrid cannot afford to lose any more points if they are to catch La Liga leaders Barcelona.

Cristiano Ronaldo has insisted that Real Madrid cannot afford to lose another match this season following Sunday's 5-1 win over Deportivo La Coruna.

Los Blancos are already eight points behind La Liga leaders and bitter rivals Barcelona after defeats in two of their opening six matches.

"Our team is good and we know we cannot lose more points," Ronaldo told reporters. "We have achieved an important victory [tonight]."

The Portuguese international scored a hat-trick at the Santiago Bernabeu during Sunday's win.
