Real Madrid team news: Injury, suspension list vs. Atletico Madrid

Sports Mole rounds up Real Madrid's injury and suspension news ahead of their Copa del Rey last-16 clash with Atletico Madrid on Thursday.

Fresh from storming to Supercopa de Espana glory, Real Madrid seek to further their chances of winning more silverware when they tackle Madrid derby foes Atletico Madrid in Thursday's tantalising Copa del Rey last-16 tie.

Carlo Ancelotti's side conquered Riyadh with a 4-1 crushing of Barcelona on Sunday evening, where a brilliant Vinicius Junior hat-trick and late Rodrygo effort propelled Los Blancos to their 13th Super Cup crown.

Prior to their successful Saudi Arabian sojourn, Real claimed a comfortable 3-1 win over Arandina in the last 32 of the Copa del Rey, but a far sterner test of their credentials now awaits.

Here, Sports Mole rounds up Real Madrid's injury and suspension news ahead of their showdown with Atletico, whom they sunk 5-3 in an absorbing Supercopa de Espana semi-final.

First-choice goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois has spent the last few months recuperating from the severe knee injury he picked up in the summer, although there is some optimism that he could be back in action in March.

Eder Militao

Similarly, Eder Militao remains on Real's long-term absentee list with his own ACL injury, but he is stepping up his recovery ahead of a possible return to action at some point in the spring.

David Alaba

Type of injury: Knee
Possible return date: Unknown

David Alaba represents the third and most recent of Real's ACL victims, having sustained his injury against Villarreal in the middle of December, and there is no chance of the Austrian defender playing again this season.

Lucas Vazquez

Status: Out

Lucas Vazquez was absent from Real's Super Cup campaign due to the hamstring injury he picked up against Arandina, and while he should be the first out of the treatment room, he will not be fully healed for another few weeks.

Real Madrid have no players suspended for this match.
