Paris Saint-Germain ease to a record-extending 12th Trophee des Champions title with a 2-0 win over Toulouse thanks to Lee Kang-in and Kylian Mbappe's goals.

Paris Saint-Germain eased to a record-extending 12th Trophee des Champions title with a 2-0 win over Toulouse at the Parc des Princes.

The Ligue 1 champions - who enjoyed the luxury of familiar surroundings at their home ground - made light work of the Coupe de France holders, who had a handful of bright moments but ultimately succumbed to first-half strikes from Lee Kang-in and Kylian Mbappe

After signing off for 2023 with a Ligue 1 victory over Metz, PSG showed few signs of rustiness on home turf, and the Parisiens needed just three minutes to convert their dominance into the opening goal.

An unchecked Ousmane Dembele latched onto a diagonal pass in the right-hand side of the box and immediately volleyed the ball into the mixer, where Lee arrived to direct a smart side-footed finish into the net.

Timed at two minutes and 34 seconds, the South Korean's strike was the first inside the opening three minutes of a Trophee des Champions clash since 2005 - when Hatem Ben Arfa struck in the first minute for Lyon - and PSG showed no signs of letting up as they sought a quick second.

Luis Enrique's men were often left to bemoan a poor final ball, though, and Toulouse gave their hosts quite the scare in the 37th minute, where only a combination of Gianluigi Donnarumma's glove and the woodwork denied Thijs Dallinga at the goalkeeper's near post.

Having survived that heart-in-mouth moment, PSG quickly surged down the other end of the field and bagged a deserved second through their own star marksman, as Mbappe received the ball from Bradley Barcola, darted infield from the left - while evading several white shirts - and fired a crisp strike into the side of the net.

Mbappe's wonderful solo finish represented his 111th PSG goal at the Parc des Princes - more than any other player in the club's history - although Toulouse had not given up hope of a monumental comeback and began the second half strongly.

Les Violets were soon penned into their own half again, though, and Achraf Hakimi came within centimetres of killing the game off in the 56th minute, striking the post with a free kick that left Guillaume Restes bewildered.

As the second half slowed to a crawl, PSG boss Enrique brought on the newly-signed Lucas Beraldo for his debut in the backline, and while Toulouse did their utmost to make things interesting in added time, the capital giants preserved their clean sheet en route to stardom.

Both teams now have Coupe de France duties to attend to this weekend, as PSG travel to Revel on Sunday evening, while Toulouse take on Chambery in four days' time.
