Portugal thrash Estonia ahead of Euro 2016

Cristiano Ronaldo and Ricardo Quaresma both score twice as Portugal thrash Estonia 7-0 ahead of Euro 2016.

Portugal cruised to an emphatic 7-0 victory over Estonia in their final friendly before the start of Euro 2016.

Cristiano Ronaldo returned to action with two goals, while the influential Ricardo Quaresma added a brace of his own for the hosts in Lisbon.

Estonia threatened to make the evening difficult for Portugal as they held firm for much of the first half, but Ronaldo broke through their stubborn resistance by heading home from Quaresma's inch-perfect cross nine minutes before the break.

The opener was just the start of the collapse as Quaresma doubled the lead with a fine curled finish past the helpless Pavel Londak.

It was 3-0 before the break thanks to Ronaldo, who capped his 45-minute display by sending home a miscued effort following impressive work from Joao Mario.

Quaresma, who would also finish the night with three assists, created the fourth 10 minutes into the second half when his corner allowed Danilo Pereira to head in for his first international goal.

Estonia were unable to cause problems for a comfortable Portugal defence and their night was made even worse when Karol Mets was unable to avoid netting an own goal after Londak failed to push clear Quaresma's dangerous cross.

Quaresma was a constant threat to Estonia on the wing and his impressive display continued with an unstoppable low strike into the corner when as Estonia paid the price for their vulnerability to an incisive counter-attack from the home side.

Portugal refused to take a step back in the latter stages of the game and their reward was a seventh goal when Eder turned quickly in a congested box to fire home following a chipped pass from Andre Gomes.

Fernando Santos and his squad will now make the trip to France ahead of their Group F opener against Iceland in Marseille on Tuesday.
