Report: Harry Redknapp a candidate for Newcastle United job

Harry Redknapp is in the frame to replace under-fire Newcastle United boss Steve McClaren, according to reports.

Former Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp is reportedly among the candidates to replace under-fire Newcastle United boss Steve McClaren.

Pressure continues to mount on McClaren following the Magpies' 5-1 defeat at Crystal Palace on Saturday - a result that leaves them second from bottom and two points shy of safety.

Ex-Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is the bookmakers' favourite to usurp the 54-year-old at St James' Park, but veteran Redknapp is also being considered, according to The Mirror.

Redknapp, 68, helped Spurs into the Champions League into 2010, before reaching the quarter-final stage after eliminating AC Milan from the last 16.

He has been out of management since quitting Queens Park Rangers in February.

Newcastle have won two Premier League games all season.
