Steve McClaren: 'Newcastle United gave up against Crystal Palace'

Steve McClaren says that Newcastle United must "keep fighting" after their 5-1 loss to Crystal Palace saw them drop to 19th in the Premier League.

Steve McClaren has said that Newcastle United gave up during their 5-1 defeat to Crystal Palace.

Newcastle have won just twice in the Premier League this season and have dropped to 19th in the table.

"We made individual errors, the killer goal was the fourth. We wanted a reaction, I think we got that. The players were focused, we made some errors" McClaren told Sky Sports News.

"It is about working for each other, winning your duels and after the third goal we didn't do that, we can't have that, it is disappointing.

"We have to bring the fans what they want and that is not it. We have 25 games to go, we are in a relegation fight, no doubt about that, but we have to work hard on the training field. We are not getting over the disappointments. Don't go down, keep fighting, do your jobs."

Newcastle welcome Liverpool to St James' Park next weekend.
