Manchester United have reportedly approached Real Madrid with their first offer for defender Raphael Varane.
The former Lens man is currently away with France for their Euro 2020 campaign, but speculation surrounding his future persists amid his uncertain contract situation at the Bernabeu.
Varane is currently due to become a free agent in 12 months' time and does not appear to be close to penning an extension, meaning that Los Blancos are expected to cash in during the summer transfer window.
Man United have been tipped to bring in the Frenchman as a long-term partner for Harry Maguire, and the Manchester Evening News now claims that the Red Devils have come forward with an opening bid of £50m.
The report adds that the bid was swiftly knocked back as Real Madrid hold out for an £80m figure, but given his contract situation, United are supposedly expecting Los Blancos to lower their asking price during negotiations.
Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain are also said to be in the race for Varane, who has won four Champions League titles and three La Liga crowns during his 10-year stint in Madrid.
