Manchester United attacker Jesse Lingard says that he has been 'pushing himself' to find the back of the net on a more regular basis this season.

Jesse Lingard has said that he has been 'pushing himself' to find the back of the net on a more regular basis.

The Manchester United attacker scored in his team's 2-0 win over Everton on New Year's Day to take his tally to seven Premier League goals for the season.

Lingard has gone from bit-part player to a key figure under Jose Mourinho, and the England international has revealed that he is enjoying having the licence to roam in the final third of the field.

"I've been pushing myself to get as many goals as I can this season. Playing on the left the boss has given me licence to cut inside. We're only halfway through the season and we have to have a winning mentality," Lingard told Sky Sports News.

United have returned to second position in the Premier League table ahead of Chelsea, but Manchester City are still 12 points clear at the summit with a game in hand.
