How Manchester United could line up against Chelsea

Sports Mole looks at how Manchester United could line up for Wednesday's EFL Cup showdown with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

Manchester United could make it three away wins in the space of six days when they take on Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in the last 16 of the EFL Cup on Wednesday night.

Having failed to win on the road in any competition since March prior to this recent revival, United have beaten Partizan Belgrade and Norwich City on their travels in the past two outings and could make it a hat-trick of triumphs in West London.

Sunday's triumph over Norwich also saw the Red Devils score more than once in a game for the first time since the opening day of the season, when they thrashed Wednesday's opponents 4-0 at Old Trafford.

Here, Sports Mole looks at how Ole Gunnar Solskjaer could line his side up as he looks to engineer a repeat of that result.

Possible MNU XI vs. CHE

Out: Eric Bailly (knee), Paul Pogba (ankle), Axel Tuanzebe (hip), Timothy Fosu-Mensah (knee), Diogo Dalot (groin)
Doubtful: Nemanja Matic (knock), Luke Shaw (thigh)

United's lengthy injury list rather limits their ability to make changes for this match, and doubtful duo Nemanja Matic and Luke Shaw are unlikely to be risked from the start either.

Solskjaer revealed at the weekend that Paul Pogba will likely be sidelined until December, meaning that Fred and Scott McTominay could keep their places in the holding midfield roles for this one.

There should be more change further forward with fringe player such as Juan Mata and Jesse Lingard hopeful of earning chances alongside youngsters like Tahith Chong, Mason Greenwood and Brandon Williams.

Sergio Romero will come in for David de Gea between the sticks, while in front of him Marcos Rojo could be given a rare start alongside first-team regulars Harry Maguire and Aaron Wan-Bissaka.
