RB Leipzig director Oliver Mintzlaff confirms that star attacker Dani Olmo will not be sold this summer amid reported interest from Manchester City.

RB Leipzig director Oliver Mintzlaff has confirmed that star attacker Dani Olmo will not be sold this summer amid reported interest from Manchester City.

The 25-year-old has established himself as one of the best players in the Bundesliga in recent seasons and is considered an integral member of Marco Rose's first-team squad.

Olmo has scored 25 goals and provided 29 assists in 125 appearances for Leipzig across all competitions, including five strikes and 11 assists in 31 games during an injury-hit 2022-23 campaign in which Die Roten Bullen won the DFB-Pokal.

The Spain international has since made a bright start to the new season, scoring a hat-trick in the 3-0 German Super Cup triumph over Bayern Munich before finding the net in Leipzig's 3-2 Bundesliga defeat to Bayer Leverkusen last weekend.

Olmo, a versatile attacker who can play as an advanced midfielder or in any position across the front three, is understood to have caught the eye of treble winners Man City, who have been keeping tabs on the former Barcelona youngster for some time.

Man City are in the market for a new midfielder before the summer transfer window closes on September 1 following the departure of Ilkay Gundogan and the injury suffered by Kevin De Bruyne.

However, Olmo recently played down suggestions that he could move to the Etihad Stadium this summer, insisting that he remains "happy" and "fully focused" on representing Leipzig in 2023-24.

Leipzig chief Mintzlaff has now ruled out the prospect of Olmo departing the club this summer, telling Bild reporter Christian Falk: "Dani Olmo will be part of the Leipzig squad this season.

"No matter who is interested, he's here and he's staying."

Leipzig are understood to have slapped a £68m asking price on Olmo, who extended his contract with the German club at the beginning of June until the summer of 2027.

Die Roten Bullen are keen to avoid losing another key player this summer having already seen Josko Gvardiol – now at Man City – Christopher Nkunku and Dominik Szoboszlai all complete big-money transfers to the Premier League.

With Olmo now set to stay at Leipzig, Guardiola's side could step up their interest in Wolverhampton Wanderers' Matheus Nunes and Crystal Palace's Eberechi Eze.

A recent report claims that Man City have seen an opening bid of £47m for Nunes rejected by Wolves, who are holding out for a figure in excess of £60m for a player who they only signed last summer for around £38m.

Meanwhile, Eze is allegedly valued by Palace in excess of £70m, with Man City and Tottenham Hotspur believed to be closely monitoring the 25-year-old who has just two years left on his contract.

Man City have walked away from negotiations to sign West Ham United's Lucas Paqueta as the midfielder is being investigated by FIFA and the Football Association over alleged betting breaches, but the Citizens are closing in on the £55.5m signing of winger Jeremy Doku from Rennes.
