Newcastle's James Perch shrugs off talk that he is a 'diver' following his clash with Liverpool's Pepe Reina.

Newcastle United defender James Perch has dismissed claims that he is a diver following his clash with Pepe Reina last weekend.

The Liverpool goalkeeper was sent off for pushing his head into Perch, who has been criticised heavily from the Reds camp for his reaction to the incident.

"I wasn't really surprised by some of the things that were said - it's Liverpool fans and all that. They can say what they want, it's water off a duck's back," Perch told The Journal.

"I'm not bothered, I don't really read too much into it. I'm not a diver. People who have seen me play know what kind of player I am. I'm not going to go and dive about and act silly and the rest of it.

"If someone makes contact with you, someone makes contact with you. That's it."

Perch has made 21 appearances for the Magpies this season.
