Jurgen Klopp unconcerned by Liverpool defence

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp plays down his side's defensive record so far this season, insisting that he will sort any problems throughout the campaign.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has played down concerns over his side's defensive record following their 4-2 victory over Crystal Palace this evening.

The Reds conceded two cheap goals during the first half at Selhurst Park to make things more difficult for them as they eventually moved back level with Manchester City and Arsenal at the top of the table.

No team in the top nine has conceded more than Liverpool this season, raising concerns over whether their defence will once again cost them in a title race, but Klopp is confident that his current crop of players have the required ability to turn things around.

"We will sort the defence - what then happens, we will see. They can defend really well; it's normal [to have lapses]. I know that everybody will talk about this," he told reporters.

"I don't go in the dressing room and say 'You're a really bad defender, and you are the goalkeeper, where are you?' They are all human beings, we work on it. I am completely convinced about the quality. If they make mistakes and stay in the game then, it's a very good test for them, and they stood it again.

"I was happy with the reaction [to conceding]. Not with the situation, not with the style of the game, that's what we have to work on, but I'm happy with the reaction. We'll work on it and we will see where it leads."

Liverpool have kept just one clean sheet in their last 12 Premier League outings.
