Crystal Palace manager Alan Pardew questions the decision to appoint Andre Marriner as the referee for his side's 4-2 home defeat at the hands of Liverpool.

Crystal Palace manager Alan Pardew has questioned the decision to appoint Andre Marriner as the referee for his side's Premier League clash with Liverpool this evening.

Marriner awarded the Reds a late penalty that handed them a 2-1 victory in the corresponding fixture last season, and once again drew the ire of the home fans at Selhurst Park today after turning down a number of penalty claims.

Palace ultimately fell to a 4-2 defeat at the hands of Jurgen Klopp's side, but Pardew was unhappy that Marriner was in charge of the fixture for a second year running.

"I don't think Andre Marriner should have reffed today. He gave the penalty last year and I don't know why Mike Riley gave the game to him again. It is a bit frustrating," he told BT Sport.

"Why create pressure on him and us because of last year's decision? Our fans were giving him stick from the start."

The result means that Palace have now lost their last three Premier League fixtures, leaving them 12th in the table.
