The full-time whistle goes to bring an end to a very encouraging afternoon for
Liverpool. They've beaten
Borussia Dortmund 4-0 thanks to an impressive display from start to finish. With the Reds getting their Premier League campaign underway at home to Southampton next weekend, there are plenty of reasons to be cheerful at Anfield right now.
FULL TIME: LIVERPOOL 4-0 DORTMUND
Just a couple of minutes left to play now. Dortmund are in possession, knocking it around at a leisurely pace. However, they just haven't got what it takes to breach the Liverpool defence. Remember, the Germans have not been beaten in their seven previous matches in pre-season.
SUBSTITUTION: Javier Manquillo is the latest Liverpool player to get a rousing reception as he makes way for Martin Kelly. The loan signing from Atletico Madrid has been solid today, rarely putting a foot wrong in defence.
Credit to Liverpool - they're still playing at a good tempo. They're passing the ball about with plenty of zip, while chasing down their opponents when not in possession. Brendan Rodgers will be absolutely delighted with what he has seen this afternoon.
SUBSTITUTION: The raft of substitutions continue with Allen replacing Henderson. Sarr and Knystock are on for Schmelzer and Sokratis for the visitors. Just over 10 minutes left to play.
SUBSTITUTION: It's a big moment for Rickie Lambert as the summer signing and childhood Liverpool fan makes his Anfield debut. Sturridge is the man to make way for the striker. A further change for Dortmund sees Jojic come off for Amini.
Immobile is continuing to work hard for Dortmund in and around the midfield area. He tries to test Mignolet with a powerful drive from the edge of the box, only for his effort to deflect behind for a corner. The resulting corner is eventually cleared by the Liverpool defence.
SUBSTITUTION: A change for Dortmund sees Aubameyang replaced by Bandowski. Meanwhile, Coutinho gets a standing ovation as he leaves the field for Ibe.
Sterling attacks the Dortmund defence from the left once again before whipping a dangerous cross in towards Henderson. The midfielder almost manages to get on the end of it, but Langerak comes off his line quickly to gather the ball. Sterling has been superb today. You get the feeling that they youngster is going to have another impressive season in the Liverpool shirt.
His team may be losing 4-0, but Jurgen Klopp isn't looking too concerned down on the touchline. That said, you wouldn't be surprised if he gave his players a right old rollicking when they get back to the changing room at full time. They've been incredibly flat this afternoon.
SUBSTITUTION: Liverpool make a change now as Jose Enrique enters the action in place of Glen Johnson. Dortmund also bring on fresh legs in the form of Ji, who replaces Mkhitaryan. Just under 30 minutes left to play at Anfield and the hosts are cruising.
This is getting silly now. A slick passing move from Liverpool which Sterling is at the heart of ends with Sturridge jinking his way through the Dortmund defence before passing to Henderson to slot in. There was a suggestion that the ball went out of play when Sturridge was in possession, but nothing was given.
GOAL! LIVERPOOL 4-0 DORTMUND (HENDERSON)
SUBSTITUTION: Another change for Dortmund now as Grosskreutz replaces Piszczek.
Summer signing Immobile has looked fairly lively for Dortmund since coming on at half time. The Italian is trying his best to inject a bit of urgency into his team. Unfortunately for him, those around him aren't showing the same kind of intent.
CHANCE! Sterling and Coutinho combine again inside the area, but this time the Brazilian's tame effort is easily gathered by Langerak. Dortmund create an opening at the other end soon after, though Mkhitaryan can only blaze his shot over the crossbar from 25 yards.
Liverpool are flying now. Who's to say that there aren't a few more goals in this for them? The Reds are looking irresistible going forward at the moment, causing all sorts of problems for Dortmund. Nothing to suggest that they're missing Suarez right now.
It's 3-0 as Coutinho puts Liverpool in a commanding position in this match! Dortmund were caught in possession at the back, allowing Sterling to get on the ball. The winger finds Coutinho in the box, and the Brazilian makes no mistake with a calm finish into the bottom corner.
GOAL! LIVERPOOL 3-0 DORTMUND (COUTINHO)
Meanwhile, Dortmund have made a total of three changes. Immobile, Hofmann and Bender are on for Kirch, Ramos and Kehl.
SECOND HALF UNDERWAY! The players are back out and it will be Liverpool to get us going for the second half. The hosts have made one change with Lucas Leiva replacing Emre Can.
For those players on the Liverpool bench, you can be sure that they will want to come on and stake a claim ahead of next Sunday's Premier League opener against Southampton. While the team that Brendan Rodgers has started with today is probably close to his preferred lineup, it only takes a blistering 45 minutes from someone on the bench to put themselves in the frame.
There can be no denying that Liverpool are good value for their lead. They've been far superior that Dortmund, who really haven't got going. Both managers are allowed to make 11 substitutions this afternoon, so it'll be interesting to see what changes are made.
The half-time whistle goes, bringing an end to a positive opening 45 minutes for Liverpool. They lead Borussia Dortmund 2-0 thanks to goals from
Daniel Sturridge and
Dejan Lovren.
HALF TIME: LIVERPOOL 2-0 DORTMUND
SAVE! What a stop from Langerak to deny Gerrard! The Liverpool skipper takes aim with a free kick from 25 yards, but his effort is tipped away by the goalkeeper.
Just a couple of minutes left to play in the first half and it's Dortmund who are still on top. They're pushing Liverpool further and further back - something which they've struggled to do this afternoon. However, Liverpool are so dangerous on the counter-attack you get the feeling that the Germans could be punished.
This is better from Dortmund. The visitors have been below par for much of this first half, but they're starting to see a bit more of the ball now. They've still done little to work Mignolet in the Liverpool goal, though coach Jurgen Klopp will be more pleased with the intentions of his players. The passing is crisper, the tempo is higher and the movement is better.
MISS! Not pretty from Ramos for Dortmund. The forward's eyes lit up as the ball bounced invitingly for him on the edge of the box, but his half-volley goes high and wide into the Kop. A bit more composure there and he could have tested Mignolet.
A bit for a worry for Dortmund as Piszczek stays down following a collision with Sterling, but he looks to be okay. It seemed to be a problem with his hip.
A good opening for Liverpool there. Sturridge found himself in acres of space down the left side before trying to float a cross to the back post towards Henderson. However, his pass had too much on it and the ball goes out of play for a throw.
Dortmund have tried to be a bit more dynamic going forward in the last few minutes, but they're still finding it hard to get beyond the Liverpool defence. Credit must go to that Liverpool back four though: they've been impressive when they've needed to be during the opening half an hour.
It's all a bit too easy for Liverpool right now. Dortmund aren't showing a great deal of adventure going forward, in contrast to the hosts. Brendan Rodgers is likely to be very pleased with the kind of pace and intensity that his players are playing with.
CHANCE! Almost a third for Liverpool. Sterling was put through down the left before cutting into the Dortmund box on his right foot. The winger tried to find the near post, but his effort was blocked by the defender.
Dortmund are playing with a fairly high defensive line at the moment, which is playing into Liverpool's hands. Sterling and Sturridge are seeing a low of the ball in wide positions, and it could only be a matter of time before one of them is put clear through on goal.
It's hard to say that Liverpool don't deserve to be ahead. The hosts have been that little bit brighter so far, while Dortmund haven't done a great deal to trouble Mignolet. There's still time for the away side to get back into this, though it's Liverpool who are firmly on top right now.
Liverpool extend their lead through Dejan Lovren! What a way to mark your first game at Anfield for your new club! A corner from the left was whipped into a dangerous area, allowing the defender to get above his marker and head beyond Langerak. That was a good finish from the Croatian international.
GOAL! LIVERPOOL 2-0 DORTMUND (LOVREN)
Liverpool lead thanks to a textbook goal from Daniel Sturridge! The striker broke the offside trap to go one on one with Langerak before calmly slotting the ball past the goalkeeper and into the bottom corner. You just knew that he was going to bury that as soon as he was put clear.
GOAL! LIVERPOOL 1-0 DORTMUND (STURRIDGE)
Still only eight minutes gone, but this match continues to be played at a decent tempo. The two sides are showing no fear in terms of going forward, while there have also been on or two tasty challenges in midfield. It's hard to tell who's on top at the moment, though Liverpool might just be edging it.
Now it's Liverpool who threaten. Sterling has a chance inside the box for the hosts, but his shot is pushed away by Langerak. Henderson then tries to chip the ball over the goalkeeper from the edge of the area, though his attempt is easily saved by the Dortmund shotstopper.
It's been a lively start to the match so far, with both teams showing plenty of attacking intent during the early stages. However, it's the visitors who create the first meaningful opening as Kirch's 25-yard effort is well held by Mignolet.
KICKOFF! The teams are out, the pre-match handshakes have been done, and it will be Dortmund to get us underway here at Anfield. Here we go!
Just under five minutes to go until kickoff and the players are starting to emerge in the tunnel. As you can imagine, there are plenty of fans inside Anfield this afternoon.
Rodgers also has some big names available to him on the bench this afternoon, including Rickie Lambert. Meanwhile, Jose Enrique, Kolo Toure and Lucas Leiva are also there should the Liverpool boss need them. Speaking of Toure, it's recently been reported that the defender is
close to joining Turkish side Trabzonspor.
Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is sure to have one eye on next weekend's Premier League opener against Southampton. The lineup that he's gone with today could be very close to the one that he selects next Sunday.
Despite not having their World Cup winners available, Dortmund have also put together an impressive-looking starting lineup for today's match. Sokratis Papastathopoulos, Matthias Ginter and Henrikh Mkhitaryan (who was linked with Liverpool earlier this summer) all feature, while Lars Bender, Neven Subotic and Kevin Grosskreutz are all on the bench.
DORTMUND SUBS: Bonmann, Subotic, Grosskreutz, Sarr, Knystock, Bandowski, Bender, Amini, Ji, Hofmann, Immobile
DORTMUND: Langerak; Piszczek, Sokratis, Ginter, Schmelzer, Kehl, Kirch, Mkhitaryan, Aubameyang, Jojic, Ramos
It's a big day for new signings Javier Manquillo, Dejan Lovren and Emre Can, who all make their Anfield debuts. Meanwhile, Brendan Rodgers has named a strong starting XI, with Martin Skrtel, Steven Gerrard,
Jordan Henderson and Daniel Sturridge among those who have been given the nod.
LIVERPOOL: Jones, Kelly, Toure, Sakho, Coates, Enrique, Lucas, Allen, Suso, Ibe, Lambert
LIVERPOOL: Mignolet; Manquillo, Johnson, Skrtel, Lovren; Gerrard, Can, Henderson; Sterling, Coutinho, Sturridge
