Liverpool team news: Injury, suspension list vs. West Ham United

Sports Mole rounds up Liverpool's latest injury and suspension news ahead of Sunday's Premier League clash with in-form West Ham United.

Liverpool will be looking to make it back-to-back wins for the first time this calendar year when they take on West Ham United at the London Stadium on Sunday.

Jurgen Klopp's side scored their first goals and picked up their first league victory of 2021 with a 3-1 triumph over Tottenham Hotspur on Thursday night, ending a five-match winless streak and a run of four games without scoring.

That result lifted them back up to fourth place in the Premier League table, but they are just two points above an in-form West Ham side, who have won each of their last six games across all competitions.

Here, Sports Mole rounds up all of Liverpool's latest injury and suspension news ahead of the contest.

Joel Matip

Status: Major doubt
Type of injury: Ankle
Possible return date: January 31 (vs. West Ham)

Liverpool's never-ending centre-back problems deepened further still when Joel Matip was forced off at half time against Tottenham, with Klopp confirming after the game that the defender may have suffered ankle ligament damage. Klopp stopped short of ruling him out of this match entirely until the results of his scan are back, but a recovery in time for Sunday looks highly unlikely.

Fabinho

Status: Out
Type of injury: Muscle
Possible return date: Unknown

Fabinho was absent for the game against Tottenham due to a minor muscle issue, and Klopp has confirmed that the makeshift centre-back will once again be missing this weekend.

Possible return date: Unknown

Naby Keita remains sidelined with a muscle injury which has kept him out for more than a month now, with no date put on his return as of yet.

Diogo Jota

Possible return date: February 13 (vs. Leicester City)

Diogo Jota is still a couple of weeks away from returning from the knee injury he sustained during Liverpool's final Champions League group game against Midtjylland in December.

Joe Gomez

Status: Out
Type of injury: Knee
Possible return date: Unknown

Joe Gomez continues to make steady progress from the knee injury he suffered on international duty with England, but there is still a long way to go on his road to recovery.

Virgil van Dijk

Status: Out
Type of injury: Knee
Possible return date: Unknown

Virgil van Dijk is also a long-term absentee who has been slowly working his way back to fitness since suffering a serious knee ligament injury in the Merseyside derby against Everton, and it remains to be seen whether he will recover in time to feature again this season.

Liverpool do not have any players suspended for this match.
