The hosts were dominant in possession throughout the first half, and were close to finding the opener after just seven minutes when Jordon Ibe found himself with a one-on-one opportunity against Swansea keeper Lukasz Fabianski, but Kyle Bartley raced back to stop the winger from pulling the trigger.
Swansea's first chance came moments later as Kyle Naughton picked out Eder with a right-wing cross, only for the striker to send his first-time finish wide of the net.
Jurgen Klopp's side were pushing for the game's opening chance, but were unable to break the deadlock as both Christian Benteke and Ibe slipped before attempting to test Fabianski in good situations.
Liverpool almost found the net before the half-hour mark, as Alberto Moreno picked out Ibe for a volley, but Swansea left-back Neil Taylor made a crucial block to deny the 19-year-old.
Spanish full-back Moreno tried his luck from a free kick before the break in an attempt to give the hosts the lead, only for his curling effort to go harmlessly over the bar.
