Championship week 38 predictions including West Bromwich Albion vs. Birmingham

Sports Mole provides score predictions for this weekend's Championship fixtures, including the Midlands derby between West Bromwich Albion vs. Birmingham.

Fulham vs. Brentford (Friday, 7.45pm)

West London rivals Fulham and Brentford face off at Craven Cottage on Friday night in a huge match at the top of the Championship.

Just one place separates the sides ahead of this derby showdown, but Fulham boast a four-point advantage on their near neighbours.

We say: Fulham 1-1 Brentford

Brentford looked impressive in brushing aside Sheffield Wednesday last weekend, but they have won just two of their last 10 away games in the Championship, drawing four of those. Fulham have also won just two of their last six matches, so we are predicting this one to finish all square.

West Brom vs. Birmingham (Saturday, 12.30pm)

West Brom boss Slaven Bilic on February 15, 2020© Reuters

West Bromwich Albion head into Saturday's West Midlands derby with Birmingham City sitting one point adrift of Championship leaders Leeds United.

Meanwhile, Blues make the short trip to The Hawthorns having failed to win any of their last five matches at the second tier, leaving the club in 16th position in the standings.

We say: West Bromwich Albion 3-1 Birmingham City

Although the Baggies have failed to win their last two Championship matches without scoring a goal, we feel that the promotion contenders will return to form against opposition who have lost the momentum they had generated at the start of the year.

Blackburn vs. Bristol City (Saturday, 3pm)

Bristol City boss Lee Johnson on February 1, 2020© Reuters

Blackburn Rovers and Bristol City square off on Saturday afternoon with just two points separating the clubs in the Championship standings.

Despite sitting just below the playoffs, both teams have failed to win for at least four matches at the second tier.

We say: Blackburn Rovers 1-1 Bristol City

Both teams will naturally be wary of handing each other an advantage in the race for the playoffs when squaring off at Ewood Park, and we feel that this will inevitably lead to a low-scoring draw being played out in the North-West.

Huddersfield vs. Wigan (Saturday, 3pm)

Huddersfield Town boss Danny Cowley on March 7, 2020© Reuters

Huddersfield Town will welcome Wigan Athletic to the John Smith's Stadium on Saturday afternoon as both sides look to distance themselves from the relegation zone.

The two clubs are only separated by one point in the Championship table, with Huddersfield in 18th while Wigan sit 20th prior to this weekend's meeting.

We say: Huddersfield Town 0-1 Wigan Athletic

While both teams will no doubt be desperate for all three points as the relegation battle continues to gather pace, Wigan have been highly impressive away from home recently and we're backing them for a narrow victory as well as a fifth clean sheet in succession.

Hull vs. Charlton (Saturday, 3pm)

Charlton boss Lee Bowyer on February 8, 2020© Reuters

Relegation-threatened Hull City play host to fellow strugglers Charlton Athletic at the KCOM Stadium for Saturday's bottom-of-the-table Championship clash.

The two teams have each suffered three consecutive league defeats heading into the match, and both sides are in desperate need of wins should they have any hope of avoiding the drop to League One.

We say: Hull City 0-1 Charlton Athletic

Both sides will be aware of what good a victory could do to their survival hopes this weekend. However, Hull's dismal home record coupled with Charlton's slight resurgence of form means that we're going for a narrow victory for Lee Bowyer's men.

Luton vs. Preston (Saturday, 3pm)

Preston manager Alex Neil on February 1, 2020© Reuters

Relegation-battling Luton Town host promotion-chasing Preston North End on Saturday with both teams desperate for points as the campaign draws nearer to its conclusion.

A resurgent Luton side will hope to further boost their chances of an unlikely escape from the bottom three as they face an out-of-sorts Preston team in danger of slipping out of the Championship playoff places.

We say: Luton Town 1-1 Preston North End

Preston are in woeful form and their struggles on the road are well-documented. They could avoid a fourth successive defeat on Saturday with a draw at Luton, but a solitary point may not be enough to keep them in the top six.

Middlesbrough vs. Swansea (Saturday, 3pm)

Middlesbrough boss Jonathan Woodgate on March 2, 2020© Reuters

Relegation-threatened Middlesbrough host playoff-chasing Swansea City at the Riverside Stadium on Saturday in an important game for both sides.

Boro find themselves 19th in the Championship table and embroiled in a real fight to stay in the second tier, whilst 11th-placed Swansea still have an outside chance of finishing in the playoffs and need to keep the pressure on the teams ahead of them.

We say: Middlesbrough 1-1 Swansea City

Both sides have recorded 14 draws this season and another stalemate could be on the cards at the Riverside Stadium.

Millwall vs. Derby (Saturday, 3pm)

Millwall boss Gary Rowett on February 15, 2020© Reuters

Millwall host Derby County at The Den on Saturday as both sides look to mount a late charge on the Championship playoff places.

The eighth- and 12th-placed teams, respectively, will be hoping to take advantage of Preston North End's poor form of late and claim a top-six spot for their own.

We say: Millwall 0-0 Derby County

Derby have won their last two games and two of their last four on the road. Millwall's strength at home, having lost just three games at The Den this term, means the two sides could end up cancelling each other out.

QPR vs. Barnsley (Saturday, 3pm)

Barnsley boss Gerhard Struber on February 8, 2020© Reuters

Queens Park Rangers host bottom-of-the-league Barnsley at Loftus Road on Saturday as the struggling side attempt to escape from the bottom three.

QPR are 13th in the Championship table and have an outside chance of making the playoffs, with a home game against Barnsley potentially a good opportunity to pick up three points.

We say: QPR 2-1 Barnsley

QPR are in fine form and have home advantage, whilst bottom-of-the-league Barnsley have lost their last two and have a poor away record. Warburton's side should have too much at Loftus Road.

Reading vs. Stoke (Saturday, 3pm)

Reading manager Mark Bowen on February 15, 2020© Reuters

Reading play host to Stoke City on Saturday afternoon looking to record their third successive victory in the Championship.

Meanwhile, the Potters make the trip to the Madejski Stadium having avoided defeat in their last four outings at the second tier.

We say: Reading 1-1 Stoke City

Stoke have proven hard to beat of late, something Bowen will have to consider when deciding on his tactics for this contest. A draw arguably suits both teams, and we feel that a share of the spoils is the most likely outcome.

Sheffield Wednesday vs. Nottm Forest (Saturday, 3pm)

Nottingham Forest boss Sabri Lamouchi on February 1, 2020© Reuters

Sheffield Wednesday play host to Nottingham Forest in Saturday's Championship clash, as both sides will be looking to bounce back from crushing defeats in their most recent fixtures.

Wednesday sit nine points clear of the relegation zone in 15th, while Forest are aiming to cement their position in the playoff places.

We say: Sheffield Wednesday 0-2 Nottingham Forest

While both sides have been struggling for form as of late, Forest will be determined to further their promotion charge and should have too much quality for the Owls, so we're going for a comfortable win for Lamouchi's men.
