Wayne Rooney will miss two matches of England's Euro 2012 group stage after UEFA reduced the striker's initial three-match ban.

UEFA have reduced Wayne Rooney's Euro 2012 three-match ban down to two matches following an appeal hearing in Nyon.

The Manchester United frontman will not be available for England's first two Group D clashes against France and Sweden but will be eligible to play in the Three Lions' final match against host side Ukraine on June 19 following a successful appeal held today.

The 26-year-old was initially ruled out for the entire group phase of next year's European Championships following an apparant deliberate kick on Montenegro player Miodrag Dzudovic during England's final qualifier in October.

UEFA took into consideration the fact that the ex-Everton star apologised to Dzudovic after the incident and didn't contest the red card decision to the referee once it was shown to him during the match.

The frontman is sure to be included in next summer's England squad following speculation that he could be left out of the travelling team if the three-match ban withstood.

The third match suspension will be served in four years' time.
