Patrick Bamford: 'I turned down Harvard for football'

Patrick Bamford reveals that he was offered a scholarship at Harvard University but turned it down to pursue his football career.

Chelsea striker Patrick Bamford has revealed that he turned down Harvard University in America to pursue a career in football.

The 21-year-old, who is currently on loan at Middlesbrough, considered going to the prestigious university had his professional football career not worked out.

"I applied abroad and somehow Harvard offered me a scholarship!" Bamford said, according to Goal.com.

"They offered it mainly based on football but it was also to do with business. Once I knew I could progress as a footballer Harvard was a back up."

Bamford has scored twice in five games for Boro already, as he looks to impress Jose Mourinho and force his way into the Chelsea side.
