Late Tomer Hemed penalty secures Brighton win at Fulham

Tomer Hemed's late penalty secured Brighton a 2-1 victory at Fulham, who looked to have salvaged a draw after Tom Cairney cancelled out Sam Baldock's opener.

Tomer Hemed's last-gasp penalty secured Brighton & Hove Albion a dramatic 2-1 victory at Fulham.

New signing Hemed held his nerve after defender Sam Hutchinson brought down Kazenga LuaLua, although he protested his foul was outside the box.

For the majority of the first half, Brighton were on top, and nearly took an early lead when Hemed hit the bar.

Despite the Seagulls's dominance, it took them until the 30-minute mark to open the scoring, Sam Baldock sweeping home Bruno's pass.

The goal seemed to awaken the home side, and midfielder Tom Cairney brought Fulham level two minutes before the break with a crisp strike.

Matt Smith almost put Fulham in front on the stroke of half time, but his header rebounded off the post.

After a first half largely contested between the two midfields, the second period was a much more open affair, with chances at either end falling to LuaLua and Ross McCormack.

Former Leeds United striker Smith was presented with a great chance to give his side the lead, but could only pick out Brighton goalkeeper David Stockdale with his header, before Hemed showed nerves of steel to leave Fulham still searching for their first league win of the season.
