Brighton boss Gus Poyet thinks that clubs that go into administration should face "severe" punshiment, such as relegation.

Brighton & Hove Albion manager Gus Poyet has claimed that clubs that fall into administration should be punished with automatic relegation.

The Seagulls' fellow Championship side Portsmouth as well as Scottish outfit Rangers are struggling to stay in business following their drops into administration.

"I've got a clear view of that and I'm not talking about Portsmouth exclusively," Poyet told The Argus. "I would be more severe with any club, because it is people that right or wrong are cheating the competition.

"They try to spend what they don't have to see if they can get up and if they don't they go into administration. It shouldn't be like that. For me categorically I would like the teams that get into that down, not 10 points, down.

"Then we will see how the teams are going to react and who is going to take responsibility. That is the other point. Somebody needs to be responsible."

Portsmouth were docked 10 points for going into administration for the second time in as many years.
