Swansea City suffer shock defeat at Birmingham City

Birmingham City beat last season's League Cup winners Swansea City 3-0 at St Andrew's.

League Cup holders Swansea City suffered a shock 3-1 defeat against Birmingham City in tonight's Capital One Cup tie at St Andrew's.

The hosts went close in the opening minutes through Chris Burke, but he could only put his shot from the edge of the box over the bar.

Swansea soon hit the woodwork twice in quick succession. Wilfired Bony headed against the crossbar and from the rebound Alejandro Pozuelo hit the post.

Bony continued to be a threat for the visitors and he saw a shot saved by Colin Doyle before firing over a curling effort minutes later.

Birmingham took the lead in the 57th minute when defender Dan Burn powered home a header.

The home side then doubled their advantage four minutes later after Matt Green forced in a cross from Chris Burke.

Tom Adeyemi sealed a memorable win for Birmingham late on after he tapped home a cross from Burke.

Bony pulled a goal back for Swansea in the last minute of the match, but it was too late for the visitors as they crashed out of the Cup they had won last season.
