New Barnsley manager Danny Wilson has described retaining the service of Micky Mellon as assistant manager as "paramount" to the club's future.

Wilson was yesterday announced as the Tykes' manager for a second time, 15 years after he first left, and he takes charge after Mellon held the fort following the sacking of David Flitcroft.

"Retaining Micky as an assistant manager is going to be absolutely paramount from our point of view," Wilson said.

"He's going to be a great help. His experience and his knowledge, certainly of the players, is going to be paramount in us going forward."

Wilson takes over with Barnsley rockbottom in the Championship.
