Barcelona boss Pep Guardiola has said that assistant Tito Vilanova will "do well" when he takes over at the Nou Camp at the end of the season.

Guardiola, who announced that he would step down from his position in April, admits that he has seen Vilanova as a capable successor for some time and that he wouldn't be where he is if not for the assistant coach.

"Tito will do well," he said. "I won't have to go back.

"In November I had dinner with [sporting director Andoni] Zubizarreta and was asked if I thought Tito was someone who could lead the team.

"I told him that I believe he could. Tito has helped me to be the coach that I am now over the past five seasons."

Guardiola takes charge of his final game at Barcelona in the Copa del Rey final tonight.
